À 37 ans, le baryton-basse italien Alex Esposito peut être considéré comme l'un des plus brillants représentants d'une génération de chanteurs qui allient le chant lyrique à une extrême aisance scénique. Ses incarnations de Leporello, Papageno et Figaro sont aujourd'hui réclamées par les plus grandes scènes européennes et, dans quelques années, gageons que ses compositions diaboliques dans Les Contes d'Hoffmann et le Faust de Gounod impressionneront autant que ses actuels rôles de prédilection. Nous rencontrons cet artiste généreux alors qu'il chante Les Noces de Figaro dans la célèbre production de Giorgio Strehler, sa première expérience de la grande scène de l'Opéra Bastille…

Le 12 février 2014, la nouvelle production de Don Giovanni du Royal Opera House de Londres était diffusée en direct dans de nombreuses salles de cinéma. La superbe mise en scène de Kasper Holten, Directeur du ROH, s'affichait ainsi sur grand écran, offrant à un casting de choix la possibilité d'évoluer dans un décor astucieux et complexe d'un potentiel théâtral accompli… Le 3 avril, nous rencontrions Kasper Holten dans son bureau londonien pour évoquer son Don Giovanni dans la perspective de la sortie vidéo annoncée chez Opus Arte…
